The Web-Master

About me;

My normal Look!

   Well my name is Paul Sayle also know as Taffy, Donald or Daffy Duck, because of the impressions I do for the children and some of the adults as well, I'm employed by Isle of Man Transport where I am a bus driver, I'm also known  by other names that cannot be repeated,  well not on this family site! lol.

  I'm forty four years old and have three children, 23(M), 20(F), 14(M) and have been very happily married to Maria for 25 years this September, I have been interested in computers or to be more precise the programs that are on the computer, I have completed the Clait Stage 1 course which covers Microsoft Office programs Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Desk Top Publishing using Word, which are held by the TGWU and are FREE to members of the TGWU, I sometimes help out with the lessons and would like to try teaching at some point, I'm always being asked for advise about different computer problems from the other drivers at work, which I really enjoy helping them sort out.

I got started in web design by one of the other bus drivers Big John McCreadie, who is the 2nd Coxswain at Douglas Lifeboat Station, it began when he told me how good I was on computers, and  that I could design a web-site easily, well before I had time to think about it, I heard myself say, why not: God! I was completely off my trolley, not only did I not have any programs to create a website with, I had no idea where to start, so I then got a program called Serif Webplus8, so I taught myself how to make a Website which never got used, but the ideas from that site helped create this one, in the meantime my brother told me about Microsoft's FrontPage so now I had to learn both programs and after some huge cock-ups, I got most of the site built, to say it was a steep learning curve is an under-statement, more like a vertical 100ft mountain climb with Big John on my back but after six months of some very stressful and also some very funny moments, well they were funny for Maria and my kids, especially when I got something wrong.

This is now the second version of this site, as I had to start from scratch when I tried to make too many changes at once and my system failed, it took me three days of very late nights to get the site how it is today, I have learnt a lot over the past year or so, from the history of Sir William Hillary and his involvement in forming the RNLI, and how he was instrumental in getting the Tower of Refuge built, I have also met some very nice people in the Douglas Lifeboat crew and officials, who have said some very kind things about the site, I have been privileged to go out on exercise with the crew, which I would say is one of the most thrilling things I have done!

* Well the Body Shave Has Taken Place*

  Saturday 7h January.

              To say I was a little apprehensive about the body shave is an understatement, but Larna and Karina made everything a piece of cake especially as I came armed with two bottles of wine, then (after they stopped laughing) it was straight down to business, Karina took control of the clippers and after only six seconds had a stripe across my head, (see pic) another few minutes later it was all gone, then on to my chest, which after some wrangling Larna drew the short straw and got to work (sorry no pics) so with my chest out of the way.
              It was time for the bit I was not looking forward to! Larna got the wax strips ready and set about my legs like a demon (see pic) I got the impression that Larna was enjoying my pain a little too much, (the manic laughter every time she tore the wax strip off gave it away), on behalf of all men everywhere I sympathise with the way women suffer, to say it smarts a little is just an insult, IT BLOODY HURTS!!!!
(and yes I am a wimp).
              After only twenty five minutes the whole thing was over and done with, I would like to thank all the staff of the Hairport for their professionalism, they are a credit to Larna and themselves. I would also like to thank Roger Oram for taking some pictures and, to Isle of Man Papers, who have given me some great publicity, and with a total raised to date of ...

£943

                I would like to thank everyone who gave so generously when I was dressed as Santa on the buses, which was the week before Christmas, when a total of £309 was collected, and with more monies outstanding, I am hopeful of reaching £700 and would be very pleased if it was more, so once again a huge thank you to everyone.

All that fuss for this much Hair!

  I have still got a lot to do to keep the site going, but it is getting easier to do, I would say that if you are thinking of starting your own site, I recommend using Microsoft's FrontPage, but that is my own opinion, there are some other programs out there like DreamweaverMX, Home Site 5 and Serif's WebPlus 8 which have ready made designed sites, the most important thing is to take your time and  not be afraid to make mistakes, also spend as much time as you can getting to know your chosen program.

I am also keen on photography and use PaintShopPro 9 as the main editing program for pictures, I have tried using Photoshop but find it user unfriendly, but I do use it when I need to, I have a reputation at work for taking compromising photos or if the picture isn't compromising, after I've finished, it will be!, so if you need any advise or have any suggestions on making the site better, please send them to me here at douglasrnli@manx.net
